Income Tax officials raid liquor baron Ponty Chadha's property in Noida

New Delhi/Noida: Income-Tax officials today raided the residences and offices of liquor baron Ponty Chadha.

Gurpreet Chadha also known as Ponty Chadha is considered to be a close aide of UP Chief Minister Mayawati. Among the places raided today include his farmhouse in Chhattarpur in Delhi and office located in Centrestage Mall in Noida.

Chadha first made headlines when Mayawati handed him the entire distributorship of liquor in UP.

According to reports, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of Income Tax raided 17 locations after a go ahead by the Finance Ministry.

Besides the liquor business, Chadha also owns a chain of multiplexes - under Wave brand - in the National Capital Region.
It is reported that around 100 crore rupees is seized from the basement of Centrestage Mall in Noida during the raid.
Sources say that two of his close associates, Lalit Kapoor and Gurjeet Kochar from Delhi(who are alleged to be partners in hawala transactions) have been detained for questioning. (ANI)
